The simplest little moments can make great portraits. The first meeting of two cousins (the little one is mine!). Even though these shots aren’t perfectly posed in Sunday best, they capture personality in a bright, modern and pretty (if I do say so myself) package: both the girls and the photograph. Embrace the casual days of summer and get out and take some playful cuddly pictures of your own…or give me a call and you can get in the picture too!

California Summer Portrait
Now that summer is upon us I have a break from school and am able to concentrate a bit more on offering photography sessions (and updating this blog!). Every once and a while to flex my artistic muscle—which allows me to continue to shoot fresh and creative portraits for my clients—I get together with a bunch of local Southern California photographers to play with models or our own kids and just create for fun. I was able to get this portrait of my own girls with props provided by the
fabulous Los Angeles photographer Je Neuhaus. I’m now inspired to try new things and take more artistic wall-ready portraits of my own children and my clients. I always like my sessions to be a partnership with those I photograph—if you have something you’d like to try out in your own portraits, please let me know. I look forward to creating art with you!
Three-month-old baby portrait
Baby L. and her family came out to my favorite little orchard for a very last-minute session before I head to California. I was more than willing to take a break from packing to fit them in. The weather was hot and muggy, but the orchard hill provided a little shade and a much-needed breeze, and baby L. was happy to enjoy it bare-skinned. Doesn’t she have the cutest smile and the coolest hair?
Family Portrait in the Orchard
I don’t often show many portraits with pacifiers, but I thought this moment (and the setting!) were too perfect to pass up. It was so great to meet you three and I hope to see you and baby L. as a toddler when I come back to New England for a visit.

Actor Headshot
This extraordinarily handsome young man is my vocal coach. Sure, laugh all you want, but I used to be very into music (I even went to the performing arts junior high!), and I wanted to indulge in an old passion, so JB and I arranged a barter. He had the um…pleasure…of listening to and helping me sing in exchange for what I hope are some kick-butt headshots for him. He hasn’t complained about any hearing loss yet, but I hope his images were worth it. Thanks for everything JB!

M. is one of those kids I could photograph all day. It’s cliché, but the camera loved her! She has a great spirit, easy smile and the most beautiful brown eyes. She came out for a headshot mini-session and in ten minutes I had a ton of gorgeous shots with an incredible variety of expressions. I just know that M. is going to light up any stage the way she lit up in front of the lens!

Sister Portrait on the Lake
I loved photographing this family! The girls were great and happy to suggest ideas and ham it up and mom and dad were open to any of their ideas (and mine too). It was wonderful to also get a preview of what I have in store for me in about four years with my two girls…and I have to say, if it is anything like the kind of fun times the F. family has, then I can’t wait!

Fairy Portrait
A. wanted to play w/her fairy costume and was happy to have me take pictures of her (she’s becoming quite the model!). Part of my job as a photographer is to find little pockets of gorgeous scenery in everyday environments. This particular spot is just in my front yard, and most people wouldn’t think it was anything special, but A. and I found it a fairy wonderland! It’s so much fun to have a little more time over the summer to enjoy taking pictures of my own children and I will try to share some of C. soon.

Author Portrait
Nancy here is a triple threat: smart, kind and pretty. It was a pleasure to photographer her in part because she kept telling me how great *my* smile was – right back atcha. Already a fairly prolific author, Nancy came to me for a headshot for her latest book. I’m looking forward to seeing it all together!
Take a look at her previous books and her page here.
black and white senior portrait
The gorgeous Miss. D. came out to me for a mini-session for her senior portraits and possible headshots. I’m doing all my mini-sessions outdoors this summer, which has proved a bit difficult with all the rain, but everything is at least lush and green as you can see by her portrait below. We were able to get a variety of great shots in a short amount of time between rain showers today, and I can’t wait to show D. and her mom all the images!

black and white portrait
In the effort to try to enjoy the summer rainy days while we are still in Massachusetts, we bought A. a cute little bug umbrella and she wanted me to take pictures of it today. When the rain calmed down enough for me to take her out and use my camera while holding my own umbrella we headed out into the yard. She’s at the stage where she likes to get her picture taken, but doesn’t necessarily like to hold still, but I’m happy to chase her around and also to catch a few moments like this where she pauses for a breather.
Outdoor child portrait
and she looks a tad wild-eyed, but that’s what a week cooped up inside for bad weather will do to you!

She might be sad that ‘it never rains in Southern California,’ but I think all the swimming will probably make up for it.
