In the effort to try to enjoy the summer rainy days while we are still in Massachusetts, we bought A. a cute little bug umbrella and she wanted me to take pictures of it today.  When the rain calmed down enough for me to take her out and use my camera while holding my own umbrella we headed out into the yard. She’s at the stage where she likes to get her picture taken, but doesn’t necessarily like to hold still, but I’m happy to chase her around and also to catch a few moments like this where she pauses for a breather.

and she looks a tad wild-eyed, but that’s what a week cooped up inside for bad weather will do to you!

She might be sad that ‘it never rains in Southern California,’ but I think all the swimming will probably make up for it.

Growing Up: Baby Portraits

In case you might not have noticed, my little blog has gotten a facelift and will contain a lot more information.  It’s still a work in progress and needs a few tweaks to the design and for me to add some content, but teyaphoto fans and clients will be able to read all the information on prices and details along with stuff about my life and session sneak peaks (and more articles and resources for photographers too).

In celebration of my blog progress, I’m sharing an image of a  little cutie who visited me earlier this year for her second teyaphoto session and another image of this same cutie when she was only one. They change so much in a year! She’s grown up a lot since her one-year-old portraits, but there is still that same mischievous little spark.

An old trick

by Teya on June 24, 2009 in Teya's Life

bread-6-23 The weather here has kept me from shooting outdoors, so I spent the evening making zucchini bread in the hopes of getting my four-year-old to eat some vegetables. It worked, though I had issues getting the middle to set without drying out the outside. I’ll have some senior portraits to share soon if the weather turns, but for now I thought I’d display my culinary skills (or lack thereof). And just for fun, I included my Dutch “Photographer” mug that my wonderful husband bought on a business trip a few years ago.

She’s probably even a bit awkward as four-year-olds go, but my daughter does like to dance! Today was her last day of dance, drama and crafts camp at The Performing Arts Connection – I’m really hoping I can find a great place near Irvine for her to dance, and if I can partner with them to do headshots, like I’ve done for Sam, then that’s great too!

I’ve been invited to participate in a great silent auction for a women’s charity in Los Angeles this fall. I will reveal the details as we get closer to the event, but I’m excited to be contributing a fabulous, glamorous boudoir package to help out. I love shooting boudoir images and making women feel beautiful about themselves, and I think this kind of photography is a perfect compliment to raising money for issues affecting all of us gals!

Sunny Day on the Lake

by Teya on May 31, 2009 in family portraits

It was great to see the T family again! I first photographed them almost three years ago and the boys have grown so much. They wanted shots by their lake, so we met just after seven this morning to capture the water before the sun became too bright.

I’m tickled and honored to have been nominated for Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect Best Boston Photographer. It’s great to have recognition for the work I’ve done (and will continue to do through this summer!) in the Boston area. I look forward to bringing the same level of quality and customer care to my new clients in Southern California and returning a few times a year to visit family and photograph all of my great Massachusetts clients.

If you are a former client or a fan of my work, please vote for me:

Wanted to share a little snapshot of C signing “more.” We are madly getting ready for the move, but I’ll try to check in as often as possible. And here is another sweet picture of my baby girl:

As I prepare my business for our move to California, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on what makes me unique as a photographer and what skills I’ve honed as I’ve grown my business. With this in mind, I’ve launched a few subpages on this blog dedicated to the craft of portrait photography. I plan to add articles, Photoshop tutorial videos and little tips and tricks to inform (or maybe just entertain) my fellow photographers.

The first article, one on my particular strong point, producing a flattering portrait is up now. Enjoy! I’d love to hear your feedback.

Earlier this spring I held a headshot day at the Performing Arts Connection for the young actors and singers. I met a great group of kids who loved the camera. We didn’t have much time together, but it was still fun to chat w/them and capture their personalities. Sharing a few with you:
