Tiny Dancer

by Teya on September 12, 2008 in Teya's Life, commercial photography

As many pictures as I take and share of my little ones, I still get excited to see my daughter in print!  One of my partner businesses, The Performing Arts Connection, needed a last-minute photograph for an ad in this month's Bay State Parent.  Luckily I had a model on hand for just this kind of request (and one who happens to love dressing up in her ballerina outfit):

Ainsley had her first class of the season this week too – creative movement for 3-year-olds, and Sam is a great teacher. It looked like a lot of fun!

Check out the ad if you happen to get the magazine, and if you are looking for a dance class (or other performance class) in the metrowest area, get in touch with the Performing Arts Connection.

Summer Garden

by Teya on July 11, 2008 in Teya's Life

Just thought I’d share a little of what I do when I’m not taking pictures or tending to children.

This year we decided to build our garden via the ‘gardening by the square foot’ method.  Things are finally starting to grow and look like an actual garden!  Today we ate our first peas (yep, we planted them late) and we have tomatoes and peppers that will be ready soon.  We’ve already eaten all the lettuce (romaine and green leaf), which was great.

Here’s a shot of two of our four 4×4 boxes (it’s amazing what you can fit in them!).  In these are tomatoes, sweet & hot peppers, basil, mint, marigolds, parsley (front box) and broccoli (those really tall plants in the front), squash,
cucumber, pumpkin, marigolds, thyme, rosemary and beans on the trellis (back box).
oh, and potted petunias to keep certain bean bugs away…

and a fun one of the chives from a box not pictured:

and this is mint, which we have growing EVERYWHERE, but I don’t mind…

Eight Days Old

by Teya on May 29, 2008 in Teya's Life, baby portraits

I think I will advise all my newborn clients from now on that eight days is definitely the sweet spot!  My new little girl slept well for us, and, I feel like it might have been the best time to take pictures of me with the baby too: my skin hadn’t yet broken out, and my baby belly had shrunk enough where I wouldn’t have looked like I was still pregnant.  When it goes right, newborn photography is so much fun, and I was happy to create artistic portraits that will look great in our house!

Here are my two girls:

the new Teyaphoto baby!

by Teya on May 18, 2008 in Teya's Life

I know many of you have been waiting for news, so I wanted to post that our new daughter, Corinna, was born this weekend.  Thank you for all the well wishes!

Aside from a few loose ends (thank you for your patience!), I will be taking the summer off to spend with my husband and two daughters.  I’m taking bookings for the July and later during this time.  I look forward to seeing you all again soon and will update the blog with our summer happenings and Corinna’s "official" newborn photos.

Here are some pictures from the hospital:

Ainsley’s new domain

by Teya on April 7, 2008 in Teya's Life

A swingset! What every three-year-old needs.  With the new baby coming I’m really trying to get some photo time in with the soon-to-be big sister.

Everyday finds

by Teya on April 6, 2008 in Teya's Life, children's photography

Some of you may have noticed that my award-winning images from PPAM incorporated textures into the image background.  This is a hot technique among portrait photographers today.  Some of you may also know that we’ve been living among house renovations since we moved in.  At least our most recent bathroom demo provided some interesting textures!

Just to give you an idea, here is a quick play with a snapshot of my daughter (she’s into acting lately, and is making her "angry" face):

Also, a photographer friend of mine shared this great find.  It’s a gallery-rail style frame set perfect for displaying your session images in a modern and organized way!

After my Portraits for Progress post I figured I better put my money where my mouth is and post a maternity portrait of myself.  This is a combined effort between me and my wonderful wedding second-shooter (my husband, Scott).

I hope this also encourages other women who aren’t a perfect size 6 (or even 8 or 10!) to include themselves in their family portraits or for those of you who are pregnant to consider getting your own maternity portraits taken.

On another note, I’ve enjoyed meeting so many families in the Worcester and Central Massachusetts area and being able to capture so many memories for my local clients.  If you have also enjoyed our relationship, I would love for you to vote for me in Worcester Living Magazine’s Best of Worcester 2008, which honors the best businesses of Central Massachusetts.

I look forward to creating fabulous portraits with both new and returning clients in the future!

I must apologize for the lack of posting on my blog.  My husband and I are expecting our second baby and I have been cursed with the misleadingly named "morning" sickness.  I’m trying my best to keep my head above water and have been busy with seniors as their fall deadlines approach.  I will share more of the sessions soon, but I’ll leave a preview today, J., who was great fun to work with:

Back to reality

by Teya on January 30, 2007 in Teya's Life, teyaphoto stuff

We are back from our week in sunny Florida and getting slowly adjusted to the frozen north.  It would be great if there was actually enough snow for my daughter to play in (she kept calling the sand on the beach "snow").  In celebration of winter, email me at teya@teyaphoto.com and let me know some of your favorite winter activities to do with your children or ask your child what their favorite thing about winter is and relay the info to me.  I will post some of the answers on the blog and give my favorite a Starbucks gift card! :)

Here is a snap of the great view from our hotel balcony.  It’s great to be home, but I do kind of miss that warm sun…

Our last chance leaves

by Teya on November 12, 2006 in Teya's Life, baby portraits

After a few days to dry off, the leaves outside were ready for my daughter to play with them for perhaps the last time this year.  Luckily, I was able to take advantage of the gorgeous day yesterday and get some photographs of her while we were out there.
