The simplest little moments can make great portraits. The first meeting of two cousins (the little one is mine!). Even though these shots aren’t perfectly posed in Sunday best, they capture personality in a bright, modern and pretty (if I do say so myself) package: both the girls and the photograph. Embrace the casual days of summer and get out and take some playful cuddly pictures of your own…or give me a call and you can get in the picture too!
Summer Outdoor Portrait
California Summer Portrait
Now that summer is upon us I have a break from school and am able to concentrate a bit more on offering photography sessions (and updating this blog!). Every once and a while to flex my artistic muscle—which allows me to continue to shoot fresh and creative portraits for my clients—I get together with a bunch of local Southern California photographers to play with models or our own kids and just create for fun. I was able to get this portrait of my own girls with props provided by the
fabulous Los Angeles photographer Je Neuhaus. I’m now inspired to try new things and take more artistic wall-ready portraits of my own children and my clients. I always like my sessions to be a partnership with those I photograph—if you have something you’d like to try out in your own portraits, please let me know. I look forward to creating art with you!
I haven’t had much time to explore the area, but already I’ve found little diamonds in the rough very close to my new home. I took this family to a nearby park for a mini-session. I love the evening light here and how it plays off all the pretty sands, browns and greens in this park on a hilltop. Mom is totally gorgeous and her little fellow just looked so content to sit with her for a bit (before he was off to explore!).
Southern California Family Portrait
I got plenty of giggles between his bunny chasing explorations (thanks in part to dad and the piggie puppet!), but something about this tender little moment touched me and I thought I would share.
Outdoor Toddler Portrait
I need to get pictures of my own girls in the California sunshine and will post those soon – expect to see more from me now that I’ve had a little chance to settle.
Three-month-old baby portrait
Baby L. and her family came out to my favorite little orchard for a very last-minute session before I head to California. I was more than willing to take a break from packing to fit them in. The weather was hot and muggy, but the orchard hill provided a little shade and a much-needed breeze, and baby L. was happy to enjoy it bare-skinned. Doesn’t she have the cutest smile and the coolest hair?
Family Portrait in the Orchard
I don’t often show many portraits with pacifiers, but I thought this moment (and the setting!) were too perfect to pass up. It was so great to meet you three and I hope to see you and baby L. as a toddler when I come back to New England for a visit.

Outdoor Children's Portrait
E. and his family came to see me for a little mini-session today. Last time I photographed them E. was not even one and he is now almost three! It’s amazing how fast they grow. Although E. took a little while to warm up, I loved the sweet moments I was able to capture with his mom and dad like this one. It was great to catch up and I hope I’ll be able to photograph E. more in the future when we come back to visit!

Sister Portrait on the Lake
I loved photographing this family! The girls were great and happy to suggest ideas and ham it up and mom and dad were open to any of their ideas (and mine too). It was wonderful to also get a preview of what I have in store for me in about four years with my two girls…and I have to say, if it is anything like the kind of fun times the F. family has, then I can’t wait!

Romance and Silliness
It was great to see the T family again! I first photographed them almost three years ago and the boys have grown so much. They wanted shots by their lake, so we met just after seven this morning to capture the water before the sun became too bright.

and the littlest, whose birthday is soon was happy to cuddle with mom and dad for a picture. Happy fourth birthday!

and I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank my wonderful assistant Terri! Thanks Terri for your great eye on the light
Just a quick look at one of just the gals from Sunday's family session:
I had a great time and hope everyone's visit was fun!
I've been trying to get my footing with the new baby and I'm sorry that blog posting has suffered. I'd love to share with you two families that had recent sessions in the studio.
I really enjoyed meeting T, J, and L. What a fabulous little family! Big brother was so great w/his younger siblings and all three were really naturals in front of the camera with a fantastic, easy-going spirit.
The E. family was also a lot of fun and although skeptical at first, mom and dad went along w/my silly suggestions and we got a portrait I love (I hope you do too!).
and aren't these two the coolest? I adored this family's style and closeness.
