California Summer Portrait

California Summer Portrait

Now that summer is upon us I have a break from school and am able to concentrate a bit more on offering photography sessions (and updating this blog!). Every once and a while to flex my artistic muscle—which allows me to continue to shoot fresh and creative portraits for my clients—I get together with a bunch of local Southern California photographers to play with models or our own kids and just create for fun. I was able to get this portrait of my own girls with props provided by the fabulous Los Angeles photographer Je Neuhaus. I’m now inspired to try new things and take more artistic wall-ready portraits of my own children and my clients. I always like my sessions to be a partnership with those I photograph—if you have something you’d like to try out in your own portraits, please let me know. I look forward to creating art with you!

I haven’t had much time to explore the area, but already I’ve found little diamonds in the rough very close to my new home. I took this family to a nearby park for a mini-session. I love the evening light here and how it plays off all the pretty sands, browns and greens in this park on a hilltop. Mom is totally gorgeous and her little fellow just looked so content to sit with her for a bit (before he was off to explore!).

I got plenty of giggles between his bunny chasing explorations (thanks in part to dad and the piggie puppet!), but something about this tender little moment touched me and I thought I would share.

I need to get pictures of my own girls in the California sunshine and will post those soon – expect to see more from me now that I’ve had a little chance to settle. :)

Three-month-old baby portrait

Three-month-old baby portrait

Baby L. and her family came out to my favorite little orchard for a very last-minute session before I head to California. I was more than willing to take a break from packing to fit them in. The weather was hot and muggy, but the orchard hill provided a little shade and a much-needed breeze, and baby L. was happy to enjoy it bare-skinned. Doesn’t she have the cutest smile and the coolest hair?

I don’t often show many portraits with pacifiers, but I thought this moment (and the setting!) were too perfect to pass up. It was so great to meet you three and I hope to see you and baby L. as a toddler when I come back to New England for a visit.

Growing Up: Baby Portraits

In case you might not have noticed, my little blog has gotten a facelift and will contain a lot more information.  It’s still a work in progress and needs a few tweaks to the design and for me to add some content, but teyaphoto fans and clients will be able to read all the information on prices and details along with stuff about my life and session sneak peaks (and more articles and resources for photographers too).

In celebration of my blog progress, I’m sharing an image of a  little cutie who visited me earlier this year for her second teyaphoto session and another image of this same cutie when she was only one. They change so much in a year! She’s grown up a lot since her one-year-old portraits, but there is still that same mischievous little spark.

Wanted to share a little snapshot of C signing “more.” We are madly getting ready for the move, but I’ll try to check in as often as possible. And here is another sweet picture of my baby girl:

Eight Days Old

by Teya on May 29, 2008 in Teya's Life, baby portraits

I think I will advise all my newborn clients from now on that eight days is definitely the sweet spot!  My new little girl slept well for us, and, I feel like it might have been the best time to take pictures of me with the baby too: my skin hadn’t yet broken out, and my baby belly had shrunk enough where I wouldn’t have looked like I was still pregnant.  When it goes right, newborn photography is so much fun, and I was happy to create artistic portraits that will look great in our house!

Here are my two girls:

Waiting for Baby

by Teya on May 10, 2008 in baby portraits

I am now very close to my due date, and have defied my doctors by not delivering two weeks ago.  Although I have some very patient clients who have told me to take my time, I might as well proof my last few sessions before going on leave. :)

I couldn’t resist working on this little darling’s one year portraits!  She was such a sweetheart in the studio even though mom and I disturbed her nap to put her in crazy outfits and hats and take her portrait!

Little Brother

by Teya on April 5, 2008 in baby portraits, family portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing little R.’s older brother at a mini-session day last year, and was very excited to see the family’s new addition.  Mom, dad and I worked very hard to get R. to sleep, but I think it was worth the wait!

Baby G.

by Teya on August 19, 2007 in award-winning photographer, baby portraits

I was so happy that I could squeeze in Baby G. and her family before she lost that sleepy newborn bendability!  She was a total doll today and I’m glad I got to meet her and her mommy and daddy:
